Vacation Day 5 (August 4)

This was our hiking day. We wanted to take the kids on a hike, but knew it had to be easy enough for all ages.  We found information online for a easy 1/2 mile hike out to a lake, and decided that sounded perfect.  We didn't realize it would be such a drive to get there.  It was 30 miles down a rough dirt road (which only allowed for 25 mph because it was so bumpy).  The views from the road were spectacular, though.

We finally reached the trailhead and started out on our hike.  It was the perfect trail - not too steep and not too long.  The kids loved climbing on the rocks along the trail.

Of course Josh would be the one to skip the bridge and just walk through the creek.

When we got to the lake (Big Hazard Lake), the kids wanted to play in it.  We'd let the boys just wear their swimsuits (figuring that they would want to get wet).  But we hadn't brought Kate's swimsuit.  So we stripped her down to her birthday suit and let her go for the water.  Minutes after I had taken off her clothes and diaper, she bent over and pooped right on that rock she is standing on.  All the kids thought it was hilarious, and Kate was a little freaked out about the whole thing, but I used a stick to move it out of the way and then everything was fine.  Kate still talks about when she pooped on the rock.

Savannah was trying to be all cool standing on the end of this fallen tree.

But then she lost her balance and fell in, and we all thought that was pretty funny.

Sara fell in too.

My proud little hikers.

We decided we wanted a family picture.  But there wasn't another person in sight to take it for us.  We discovered a timer on my phone that could be voice controlled, so we propped my phone on a tree and got some family pictures.

Owen was very sweet and picked me wildflowers the whole hike back to the van.

After the long dirt road back, we stopped at A&W for root beer spins.  (The bumpy road put Kate right to sleep on the drive).
