McCall

It's been a rough year.  I had my 7th baby, and my workload around the house increased.  I lived through a kitchen remodel through the dead of winter.  My thyroid decided to go from bad to downright crappy and I gained weight and had no energy.  I was stuck inside all winter long, with no sun.  We are financially strained from this remodel.  It's been a rough year.

It's also been a rough year for my sister, Shauna.  So one day when each of us had reached our breaking point and wanted to just run away, we decided to do just that.  Run away together, on a first ever sister's weekend.  Since I'm completely broke, it needed to be really low budget.  One evening as I was talking to our builder's wife, she mentioned her cabin in McCall and said, "You should go to our cabin for a getaway".  I took her up on it.

The weekend before Mother's Day, Shauna came from Idaho Falls and we started our weekend by going to see Wicked here in Boise.  We loved it!

The next morning we set out for McCall.  We stopped at the grocery store there, and stocked up on healthy food to eat throughout the weekend.  Then we fixed some lunch, and ate it out in the sun and fresh air.

After lunch, we drove down to the lake, and did some walking around.

It felt so strange not to have an agenda or not needing to be helping anyone.  I'm always doing something for my family.  Always.  It was so strange to not be helping anyone.

After walking around the lake, we went back to the cabin.  We fixed a healthy dinner, did a workout, then stayed up late watching chick flicks.

The next day, after sleeping in, we donned our running shoes and set out on a long run.  It was on our schedule to run 10 miles, but we decided to do 13 just to prove how awesome we are.  The scenery was beautiful as we made our way down and around the lake.

Notice that at this point, our average time had slowed considerably.  There were a lot of hills, and we got talking around mile 9 and ended up doing quite a bit of walking so we could carry on a conversation.

We somehow managed to get lost.  And with no husbands to call to come rescue us, we had no choice but to keep going till we got back to the cabin.  We ended up logging 15 miles!

We had planned to go out for dinner that night, but we were too tired to leave the cabin after our run.  So we stayed in and cooked dinner for ourselves and watched more movies, while enjoying the heat from the fireplace.

The next day (Sunday) was the day we were supposed to head home.  Neither one of us was in a big hurry to get on the road.  We did another workout, then cleaned up the cabin.  We finally left around 5 that evening. I think we both could have used a few more days away, but we had to go back to real life eventually.  It was a wonderful weekend of bonding, venting our frustrations to each other, proving to ourselves that we are strong and amazing, and relaxing.  We came back ready to pick things back up and be moms and wives again.
