Owen's Recipe

One day I was picking up Owen from preschool, and as soon as he walked out the school door, he immediately dug into his backpack and pulled out a recipe and excitedly told me all about making it that day in school.  He couldn't wait to make it for all of us here at home.  So, we bought the supplies (biscuit dough and apples), and he made us his recipe.  He was sure to have the paper right next to him, so he could follow it step for step.

It was such a hit with the family, that he made them for us 4 more times over the next week. I loved watching the pride on his face as he made them every time.

Dentist

Owen and Kate got to visit the dentist.  (The other kids did too, but I don't go back with them and take pictures of them like I do with Owen and Kate.)  They both did great.  Kate even sat still and let them take xrays.  Owen had his first cavities (5 of them!).

Owen has since been back twice to have the cavities all filled.  He did not enjoy those visits as much as he enjoyed his cleaning check up.  After his first visit back to get cavities filled, the gas they gave him made him nauseous afterward, and he came home and went right to sleep. The second time we went back to get the rest of the cavities done, he knew what was coming and was not happy about being there.  But, he got them all taken care of, and now is a lot more motivated about brushing!

McCall

Scott's office was invited by Blue Shield to a thank you/training weekend up in McCall, and spouses were invited.  It was all expense paid and was amazing.  My parents were kind enough to come and stay with the kids for us, so we could get away.  We left Friday around 1, and made the drive up to McCall.  Scott had to be on a conference call at 2, so we tried to time it just right to still have phone signal before getting too far into the mountains.  We thought stopping at Banks would give us signal, but when we got to Banks, there was no signal.  So we backtracked down about 5 minutes till we had between one and two bars of service, and pulled over for Scott to do his conference call.  I didn't mind the view.

While we were stopped, I got a phone call from the Elementary School that Nate was sick and needed to go home.  Aaron and Josh had stayed home that morning sick, and Nate had stayed home the day before, but he'd felt better that morning.  So I called my dad and told him he needed to go pick up Nate for us.  Scott finished up his conference call, and we continued on our way.

We arrived in McCall around 4, and checked into the Shore Lodge.  We settled into our room and just relaxed till it was time for dinner.

A goodie basket gift from Blue Shield.  They really did spoil us the whole weekend.

Dinner was an eat hors d'oeuvres and mingle type of atmosphere.  The highlight was the chocolate platter.

Saturday morning, Scott started early with a meeting, while I slept in a bit.  Blue Shield paid for all the spouses to go to the spa for a treatment, and I picked a massage.  The guys got to go golfing.  So while Scott headed off golfing, I headed down to the spa for a massage.  This was the cute courtyard I got to sit in and relax before and after my massage.

Then I headed across the hall of the hotel and ordered breakfast (also paid for by Blue Shield - they paid for everything).  I enjoyed a quiet breakfast overlooking the lake.  It was awesome.

After breakfast I went back to my room and took a nap.  Then I showered and got ready for the day and read a book till Scott got back from golfing.  He showered too, then we went out for a walk around the resort.

That evening we had a really nice sit down dinner.  The food was delicious!  The next morning we slept in, then got packed up ready to check out.  But before we checked out, we enjoyed some yummy breakfast by the lake.

After checking out of the lodge, Scott drove me over to the golf course to show me where he had golfed the day before.  It was so beautiful!

We stopped for a hike on our drive home.  Last month Josh went on an overnight backing trip to Blue Lake, so we thought it would be fun to do that same hike and see where he had been.  It's just a mile out and back, but is pretty steep, so it was a good hike.  And the lake was gorgeous.

We made it back to Eagle around evening time.  The kids were happy to see us and hear about our weekend.  My parents were pretty eager to get back home, so they got packed up and headed home.  I was so grateful for them spending the weekend with my kids, so I could spend the weekend with my husband!

Sara's Boat Launch

One of the fun activities that our school does, is in 5th grade the kids design a boat, then float it down the canal.  I was lucky enough to get to go watch Sara's boat launch.  Her boat stayed afloat the whole time and looked great too.

It's A Boy!

When I had an ultrasound at 16 weeks, my dr had a hard time getting a good look, but he said he was 70% sure my baby was a girl.  I took that as 100% and started making plans for a little girl.  It never even occurred to me that it might be a boy.  I was sure it was a girl.  A girl would make things even - 4 girls, 4 boys.  Kate would have a little sister close in age to grow up with.  It was going to be perfect.

And then I had my 20 week ultrasound, and I was utterly shocked to see this!

I was seriously in shock.  I was sure the picture must be wrong.  But, a few more views of him throughout the ultrasound, and I knew there was no way it was wrong.

I watched the rest of the ultrasound in a daze.  A boy?  How could this be a boy?  I'm still a little in shock even now, a month and a half later.

I had a quick ultrasound with my dr, then he sent me across the hall to an ultrasound tech for my complete 20 week diagnostic ultrasound.  That ultrasound lasted almost an hour, and the tech looked at everything to make sure our baby was developing normally and was healthy.  I had been really nervous leading up to the ultrasound.  I had declined to have genetic testing done earlier in the pregnancy, so this was our chance to find out if there was something terribly wrong.  I'm almost 40, so the worry is very much real and justified.  But, he looked good!  He's completely healthy!

So, instead of having a nice even 4 and 4, I'm going to have 3 girls and 5 boys!  It's not that I didn't want a boy, it was just not at all what I was expecting, and it's taken some time for it to set in as a reality.  But, I think we've all come to accept that it's a boy, and we are starting to get so excited for when he will join our family.  I promise, he will be very loved in this family.

Scott and Josh

Josh and Scott got to spend some quality time together Conference weekend.  They were able to attend a BSU football game together.

Then after the game, they met up with Scott's dad and brother for Josh's first General Priesthood Session.  I think Scott had been looking forward to that event for a long time.  Josh is the oldest grandson, so I think Scott's dad had been looking forward to it too.
