Carnival for a Cause

Earlier this year, our good friends the Moores received the news that Glen's brother Paul had cancer.  It had started on his kidney and had spread to his brain and his shoulder.  He had surgery to remove the tumor on his brain, and the one on his clavicle, and they removed the 7 inch tumor on his kidney.  During all those surgeries, they waited to get back more test results.  The results came back that he was terminal.  He decided to fight for as much time as he could so he could spend more time with his wife and two little girls.  He endured chemo and many more surgeries, including a hip replacement and back surgery when the cancer moved into his bones.  Finally they had exhausted all their options, and the cancer was still spreading.  So they discontinued treatment and he has been spending every last minute with his family.  It's been really hard to see Glen and Kendi have to go through this.  They have spent every spare weekend they can down in Utah helping Glen's brother and spending time with him.  As the news came that he was close to the end, they decided to call September 12th Paul Moore Day, and asked everyone who knew him to do something that day in his honor.  Glen and Kendi decided to do a fundraiser carnival (with the proceeds going to help Paul and his wife).

We took all the kids and we had such a fun time.  They had a bounce house, a petting zoo, horse rides, a bake sale, and food and lemonade.  We bought a bunch of tickets, then let the kids do whatever they wanted.  I can't count how many cookies and cups of lemonade we bought.  And we bought a plate of mud slide brownies and an apple/blueberry pie to take home for later.

Aaron and Nate stood in line for horse rides.

Kate loved this little swing.

All the kids loved the baby bunnies in the petting zoo.

It was a really fun way to spend our Saturday.  I hope our small contribution helps Paul and his family.  And I hope that Glen and Kendi can look back on the day as a wonderful memory celebrating Paul's life.
