Snow Camping

The middle of February, Josh got to experience snow cave camping.  He was a little nervous about going (and I was a lot nervous about sending him).

I love that Josh's scout leaders take pictures and post them for us parents.  Even though I'm not there, I get to read about it and see pictures of it, which is really great.  This is what his leaders had to say about it:  "This weekend was our snow cave campout above Cascade. The snow was deep. The weather was perfect at 32 degrees. It took the boys about 3 to 4 hours to dig their 5 snow caves. Each had a unique design. They all got very wet from laying in the snow while digging and from sweating while digging. But they all got into dry clothes and sleeping bags for the night and slept warm. Many thanks to Bro Palmer for cooking three very yummy Dutch Oven desserts."

"After breakfast several of the boys went swimming at the nearby hot springs and two interesting things happened there. First Bridger slipped and fell into the hot springs full clothed. Second Josh decided to hike out through the snow bare foot and it was a good ways up a hill back to the cars. All the boys earned their "man card" on this trip for digging and then sleeping in snow caves but Bridger and Josh deserve a special mention under earning their man card."

"This morning at our snow cave campout, we had a warm breakfast of sausage, eggs and breakfast potatoes. All the boys and Bro Palmer slept in snow caves (Bro Jeppesen and Bro Stewart slept in a tent). Here are some pictures of the boys as they woke up this morning around 8 am or so. And a few of the snow caves."

When Josh came home, he collapsed on the couch and slept.  I guess snow cave camping is exhausting.
