Day 7 - Beach Day

Wednesday morning, I woke to little spies upstairs keeping watch on the happenings below.  I love how these boys are such good friends and play together.

This day we dedicated to the beach.  We didn't drive anywhere (so no car sickness), and we just spent the entire day playing out on our beach.  It was heavenly.

Kate kept a good hold on her daddy.

Scott mostly kept her safe and happy (he couldn't help teasing her just a little bit with the water).

But, carrying a baby around on your shoulders all day is exhausting, so eventually he had to put her down.  We brought a little chair down to the beach, and we placed it in the sand far away from the water.  She decided the chair was an ok replacement to dad's shoulders.

She loved looking at the shells Savannah found.

And eventually, she even got brave enough to leave her chair and play on the beach.

Aaron loved playing in the sand.  He tried to avoid the water as much as possible.  He was pretty freaked out about what might be in the water.  Not sharks, but seaweed and such.

The kids found some boards in the garage, and decided to give boogie boarding a try.

I was really proud of Aaron for giving it a try.  He didn't love it, but he tried it!

Sara got really good at it.

Josh went for a walk up and down the beach collecting shells.

Nate loved letting the waves chase him (when he wasn't digging in the sand with Aaron).

So did Owen (although he wasn't as brave as Nate, and tended to just get his ankles wet).

After a few hours down on the beach, we headed back up to the house to get some lunch and the kids warmed up in the hot tub.

Kate fell asleep in her highchair during lunch.

We moved Kate to her crib, then I stayed behind with her while the Scott took all the kids back down to the beach.  I enjoyed the quiet, and the view out the back door.

I watched them on the beach below.

While I was up on the deck, the kids spotted a little seal come up out of the water and make it's way up the beach.  Scott kept the kids at a safe distance, but they loved getting to see it waddle up the beach.

After a while, Sara came up to use the bathroom.  She was tired from boogie boarding, so she offered to stay with Kate while she slept and let me go back down to the beach.  I made it in time to watch all of the kids give boogie boarding a try (including Scott).

Savannah was pretty hesitant at first.  She didn't want to get her shirt wet.  But soon she found out how fun it was and really got into it.

It was really fun watching Scott get out with the kids and give it a try.

Josh was a die hard and boogie boarded all day long.

Aaron preferred rubbing himself down with sand to boogie boarding.  And then throwing that sand at the ocean.  I love that kid.

Owen was absolutely giddy about the beach.  He kept running over to me and yelling, "This is the best day ever!"

Scott helped Owen take a dip in the ocean.

Nate's favorite was trying to outrun the waves.

Soon Kate woke up and Sara brought her down to the beach.

After dinner, Sara and I went for a walk down the beach to see if we could find the seal.

We found it just below the stairs at the next beach entrance.  We stood on the stairs and watched it sunbathing.  It was the cutest little thing, and it was so fun to get such an up-close look at it.

After my walk with Sara, it was Savannah's turn.  She and I walked down the beach and collected shells.  On our way back to the house, we were lucky enough to watch the little seal make it's way back into the water!

The trail left from the seal.

It was another tiring day for Kate.

That night was our last night in the house, so I went around and took pictures of all the kids sleeping so we could remember it all.  That night Owen slept on a roll away in with the boys.

I wish I had taken a picture of Sara, but Kate was in next to her sleeping, and I didn't want to risk waking up Kate.  But, her room was just off to the left of that chandelier.

This was the view of the main house from the guest house above the garage.

Josh and Savannah loved having the guest house to themselves, their own little space.

Savannah, my night owl, was still awake.

This is the stairway leading up to the guest house.

And the view of the guest house from the upstairs of the main house (the opened door below is the garage where I did countless loads of laundry).

None of us wanted to leave.
