Josh Turns 10

Josh turned 10 years old on July 24th.  We started his celebration in the morning with breakfast out at a local restaurant with Mom and Dad (Savannah stayed home and babysat the kids for us).  Then he spent the afternoon with his Grandma Jo going to a 3D movie, eating at an all-you-can-eat pizza place, and doing some shopping.  And we ended his day with a firepit dinner.

My three little monkeys.

Present time.  Savannah and Sara each begged me to take them shopping the day before, so they could buy their brother a present with their own money.  Savannah got Josh a pop up bug cage, and Sara got Josh a quarter collection case (Josh has been trying to collect all the state quarters).  I was so proud of the girls for wanting to do that for Josh.

And then it was time for our present.  We had attended a friend's yard sale earlier this summer, and Josh had fallen in love with this air rifle and begged to get it.  We told him no, then went back later and got it.  We surprised Josh with it for his birthday.  Don't worry, it will be very strictly supervised.

And we ended the night with cake and ice cream (and re-lighting candles - our kids go crazy for them).

I can't believe my little boy is 10.  As he had his hands over his eyes waiting for his rifle, I had a flash back to another birthday when he was just a little thing.  He was turning 3 and was waiting for us to bring out a three-wheeled scooter for him.  There are so many days I wish I could reverse time and go back to when he was little.  It's a really hard thing for a mother to watch her kids grow up and become more independent.  Part of you is so very proud of them and how competent they are becoming, and the other part of you wants to just scoop them up in your arms like you did when they were itty bitty and needed you for everything.  It's just one of those cruel realities of life, that time waits for no one.  Kids grow up, and there is nothing we can do to stop them.
