Friday we went hiking in the foothills. The kids were so excited about "hiking in the mountains".
We hiked for a while down to a bridge over a stream.
We kept going down the trail, which now followed the stream.
I started to worry that we were going too far, and that the kids would get tired hiking all the way back, so we turned around. We stopped again at the bridge and let the kids walk down to the stream and play for a bit.
Owen was really tired, but the trail was very bumpy, so he had a hard time on the hike. He cried the whole first half of the hike. Then he finally fell asleep while we were stopped by the stream.
On the way back, the kids started to get tired (which is what I was afraid would happen). Aaron drank all the water.
Sara was a trooper and just forged ahead.
And Savannah was pretty sure she was just going to die if she had to take another step.
Nate enjoyed a ride from his dad.
We finally made it back to the suburban. As soon as we got down out of the mountains and back in civilization, we stopped at a Burger King and got the kids milkshakes and chocolate chip cookies. And then everything was good again.
After we got home and had dinner, we took the kids swimming. It was a great way to relax after a hot day of hiking.
