Then we watched the walls go up.
Next the roof on our eating area came off so the new roof could go on.
The next step was the most intense. We had to replace a load carrying beam in the kitchen with an extended one. And we needed to tear the roof off the kitchen and replace it with a new one. Our builder had estimated a day for each of those three things. But, snow was in the forecast, so the rush was on. Everyone worked so hard that day to get all three things done in one day. They stayed past dark working to make sure we had a roof over our head before they left. Our builder said it was a miracle that they were able to get it all done in one day.
A temporary wall had to go up to hold the upstairs up while they switched out the beam. |

The next day, the old kitchen walls came down, and we were finally able to get a feel for what the new shape of our kitchen will be. It's huge. It's perfect. It's surreal. And now we wait for electrical to get done so we can sheetrock and insulate. In the meantime, it's a bit chilly in our kitchen. We are weather proof, but not cold proof right now, so our kitchen is about 10 degrees colder than the rest of our house. And we no longer have a working dishwasher or stove/oven, so I'm having to be creative with meals. I keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end. But I am getting really tired of the dust.

I am so in love with my huge windows. |
